Canberra adventure coming up

In less than two weeks time, I will go from this

and this

to this

and this

and then back to this.

Although it will include some hard work, I am hoping the trip is also filled with some memorable times and the making of some stronger friendships.

Accidents

Definition: An unplanned, unexpected, and undesigned (not purposefully caused) event which occurs suddenly and leads to: (1) injury or loss, (2) a decrease in value of the resources, or (3) an increase in liabilities. In insurance circles, an "accident" is often the term used for an event which is not deliberately made to happen...

Well in any case, I had another one. An accident that is. I felt like I had gone backwards again to January, and it was happening all over again. I started to think this was the beginning of a very long year ahead...
but a few things happened in the week since the "accident" that made me sit up and think.

Sometimes stuff just happens. As much as we'd like to think that it all evens out in the end, the reality is that life is not balanced, and life is not fair. But that doesn't mean we need to get all melancholy and uninspired about life.

Accept it and move on.
Lots of stuff happens every single day, to lots of people. No amount of worrying or contemplating; planning or avoiding or regretting will change that.

I have spoken to many people in the last week, and realised that the accident could have been a lot worse. All of us involved in the crash have minor injuries and we should be thankful for that. Another bonus is that it was "just" a cycling accident; no cars involved, no buses or trucks; no-one ended up in hospital for days to weeks to months...
an unlucky crash, but overall we were all lucky.

There are plenty of people who I know who have been challenged by a bike accident at one time or another. So many of them have been so much worse off than me; I really have nothing to complain about...
and it continues to astound me how the enjoyment and personal satisfaction that comes from bike riding, and the reward for getting back on the bike again after injury, makes the recovery process somehow all worth it.
